Wind turbines are highly complex noise sources.
Close liaison with the manufacturer is essential in order to understand the specific characteristics of noise propagation from the turbines since these can vary considerably. Gathering appropriate information in relation to background noise levels at various wind speeds and heights is also highly important.
However, the most important factor in the noise impact assessment is undeniably the assessment methodology. We can undertake various assessments taking into consideration the guidance in the ever popular ETSU-R-97 (alongside the latest IOA guidance), BS4142:2014 (even though wind noise is outside its scope), or other bespoke low frequency noise assessments.
We will also negotiate with local authorities and undertake noise propagation computations using established noise mapping software in order to present the impact using the various assessment methodologies and determine mitigation measures if deemed necessary.
