In the UK, we face an estimated requirement for 250,000 new homes a year. In the drive to deliver, we must avoid repeating mistakes of the past, by ensuring that we build theseh high-quality homes that will sustainably meet the long-term needs of their occupants.
The Home Quality Mark (HQM) has been developed to help drive quality in the housing industry by providing a simple but reliable five-star rating system that allows new homes to be quickly and easily compared.
HQM enables house builders to demonstrate the quality of their homes and to differentiate them in the marketplace.
Acoustics and the control of noise appears numerous times in the assessment methodology. Specific targets (and credits) are assigned in relation to the sound insulation of party and internal walls and floors and ambient internal and external noise levels (something excluded from the previous Code for Sustainable Homes).
