Planning & Noise
Planning applications may have noise implications relating to existing noise impacting on a proposed site, or a proposed development impacting on the surrounding area.
The Noise Policy Statement for England (NPSE) sets out the long-term vision of Government noise policy. The National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) sets out the government’s planning policies for England and how these are expected to be applied.
Noise impact assessments are often required to support a planning application submission or to fulfil the conditions of a planning consent granted by the Local Authority. For larger developments, such assessments can also form part of an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
A typical noise assessment might include;
- Noise surveys to establish existing noise levels affecting a site;
- Prediction and assessment of noise from the proposed development impacting on the surrounding area;
- Prediction and assessment of existing noise impacting upon the proposed development;
- Specification of mitigation measures to ensure relevant National and Local standards and guidance levels are met;
- Preparation and issue of a technical report suitable for submission to the Local Authority.
NSL has extensive experience providing noise impact assessments nationwide to support planning applications for residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use developments. We can provide the necessary support to developer’s looking to gain approval for proposed plant installations, delivery activities, events venues and much more.
