Attenuators

The comprehensive range of NSL attenuators has been developed to cater for the diverse range of constructional and performance specifications required for our industry.
Acoustic Performance
We have fully developed software programmes for selection of our attenuators to suit all applications, ensuring the most cost-effective solution is determined.
Our software allows for the internal splitter configurations to be designed with the necessary absorption and insertion loss characteristics to suit intended purpose and individual requirements.
Our attenuators are tested in accordance with the British Standard BS4718:1971 “Methods of tests for silencers for air distribution systems”.
We manufacture various constructional types of attenuators from standard ductwork, typically a riveted assembly through to fully welded units with heavier gauge materials for more structurally demanding applications.
We also have unique methodologies for flat pack assemblies for all manner of seized attenuators. These can either be free standing or structurally stacked as required. All components are manufactured to help and aid installation on site, keeping assembly times and cost to a minimum.
We have a wide range of supporting solutions for our attenuators and can provide a structural supporting solution as required.
About our attenuators
All attenuators are manufactured in an aerodynamic bull nose to assist with pressure drop reduction and allow better airflow dynamics to be achieved.
Typical types of attenuators available
- Rectangular attenuators
- Bend attenuators
- Circular attenuators
- Crosstalk attenuators
- Bespoke attenuators
Standard attenuators are manufactured from pre-galvanised mild steel with splitters formed in an acoustically absorptive mild steel framework, retained by a perforated metal structurally support framework. The acoustic infill material shall be inert, rot- and vermin-proof, non-hygroscopic mineral wool, or fibre glass with a density not less than 32kg/m3. Fire ratings shall be class 1 rating for surface spread of flame as measured to BS 476: Part 7, and a “non-combustible” rating when exposed to BS 476: Part 4A equal to class “0” as defined in the building regulations.
In conditions where dust, water, or oil for example maybe in the airstream, these splitters are manufactured in a Melinex lining which is resistant to these conditions. Melinex protection will stop the contaminants ingress into the acoustic infill material.
For applications of high pressure, we will manufacture fully welded attenuators with additional stiffening to provide a fully robust solution. All internal components will receive additional structural supports and stiffening as required.
We manufacture exhaust attenuators for specialised applications. This also includes high temperature attenuators.
Finishes
Attenuators are available in various constructions and finishes. These typically include:
- Standard pre-galvanised mild steel.
- Polyester powder painted, available in various paint colours.
- Stainless steel.
- Specialist painted finishes when requested.
