Building Acoustics
Building Acoustics is the science of noise control within internal spaces. This includes the control of the characteristics of sound within buildings and the minimisation of noise transmission between adjoining rooms.
The acoustics of a building can have a significant impact on its usage, the ability of users to effectively communicate, productivity, Health and Safety, and wellbeing. There is often a delicate balance between promoting quality listening conditions and achieving appropriate levels of acoustic privacy, whilst also meeting other project requirements.
Noise Solutions has extensive experience providing consultancy services to support the internal design of schools, offices, restaurants, retail spaces, music venues, rehearsal spaces and studios. Whether engagement with an acoustic consultant is required at design stage or retrospectively to assist in resolving noise issues, we provide the necessary onsite testing, modelling and assessment works to ensure project requirements are met.
Our services include advice relating to:
- The construction of proposed separating walls/floors and junction detailing.
- Detailed advice on how treatments can be applied to existing building structures to provide enhanced levels of sound insulation and privacy.
- Specification and placement of absorbent room finishes to ensure appropriate reverberation times and levels of speech intelligibility.
- Control of external noise break-in.
- Control of building services noise.
All of our assessments are undertaken in accordance with relevant British Standards and recognised guidance (e.g. BB93, BCO Guide to Specification, BS 8233, etc.). We tailor our advice to our clients’ needs to ensure expectations are met.
